BUILDING A WORKER-CLIMATE MOVEMENT

Who are we?
A grassroots project focused on strengthening the movement of workers fighting for transition, by:
Outreaching across sectors, regions and unions
In-depth interviews with organisers on the details of their efforts
Analysis and referrals across shared tactics and structures used in this fight
Hosting worker roundtables on key areas of focus for our movement
Our 2025 plans
This year, we are going even further in understanding and helping to develop the worker-climate struggle. Some of our steps towards this will be:
Attending relevant events to be in dialogue with workers meeting up to network and reflect on strategy
Running interviews with many more trade unionists, comparing across these deep insights into worker-climate efforts to find common strengths and challenges
Responding to collective gaps in information and insight by co-creating substantial resources alongside those who want to use them
Hosting worker roundtables focusing on key strategic areas- starting with how trades councils are used, and their potential for local, worker-led transition planning

Our History
The Worker-Climate Project (WCP) started as part of the grassroots independent campaign Labour for a Green New Deal (LGND)
Following from far-reaching, socialist-climate politics of the overall campaign (policy archive up soon), the WCP was formed to take this ambition into the British trade union movement
From discussions across the workers’ movement, it was clear that transition efforts would be bolstered by an organisation helping to understand and network workers across their shared struggle
Resources
In the build up to our Worker-Climate Conference in October 2022, we conducted in-depth interviews with various workers. Comparing the shared challenges and approaches from those we spoke to, we produced a variety of resources around the conference.
